Country Queen is the first Netflix original series to be produced in Kenya. According to Melissa Kiplagat, the lead actor, the series took six years since inception to launch. She stated that Netflix quality series take time but intimated that now is the best time to have a Kenyan series because there are more opportunities.
Melissa Kiplagat also said that she saw an advertisement for the role in a WhatsApp group and applied for it.
