Duke Mainga Ondiba, popularly known as Echate is a young visionary leader from Kisii County. He hails from Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, which is one of the nine constituencies in Kisii County.

Age

Duke Mainga was born on 10th August, 1991. Therefore, he is 31 years old. His place of birth is Riribe village in Kenyenya Su-County.

Music and political career

Duke Mainga has been singing for a while but it wasn’t until he was appointed as the CEC for Culture, Sports, Youth and Social Services. He was appointed after unsuccessfully vying to be the Member of Parliament for Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, becoming the youngest County CEC in the country at the time.

He served in the position for five years and used the limelight to promote his and other Kisii artists’ music careers.

In 2022, he had another unsuccessful bid for MP on a UDA ticket.

His political career was shaped at Kisii University where he served as a student leader in charge of Sports and Entertainment. Later he served as the Secretary General for KUSA.

Before all the fame, Duke used to hawk mandazi and tea to raise fees for his undergraduate studies. He also ventured into timber business which may have influenced his decision to start a furniture store while he served as Kisii CEC.

Professionally, Echate has worked as Chief Marketing Officer for KCB and in Kisii University.

Education

Duke is well educated. He sat for his KCPE examinations in Kenyenya DEB Primary School before proceeding to Kisii School where he passed his KCSE exams in 2010. He then joined Moi University for a Bachelor of Law degree but could not continue due to lack of school fees. However, in 2015, he graduated from Kisii University with a Bachelor of Education, English and Literature. Currently, he is pursuing a Masters degree in International Relations from the University of Nairobi.

Echate is married to Milkah Kerubo Obonyo with whom they have dated since 2013. Together, they are blessed with a daughter, Afrika Nyabwari. As a family man, Duke believes marriage makes a man focused which is contrary to Diamond Platnumz views that marriage hinders the progress of a man.
