Didmus Barasa is the current Kimilili MP since 2017. He is a controversial Kenyan politiican who also served in the military. Per Parliament.go.ke, he joined UDA after exiting Jubilee Party in 2021. His other political parties include Amani Peace Coalition (2013) and United Democratic Forum Party (2016).
During the 2022 election period,. Dismus Barasa fatally shot the driver of his competitor in broad day light. However, he was acquitted after 10 months for lack of sufficient evidence. However, the prosecution argued that the court process was flawed and that it would likely appeal the outcome. The prosecution team that included Peter Kiprop, Robert Oyembo, and Augustine Ayiekha said, “We forwarded Barasa’s Glock pistol to the National Forensic Laboratory and ballistic findings from their report linked the firearm to the fatal shot that took away Olunga’s life. We particularly took cartridge and bullet fragments at the crime scene to the ballistic lab for forensic analysis. The report from the analysis says the recovered cartridge was fired by the Glock pistol issued to Barasa.”
