Android mobiles keep improving – What Kenyans will benefit

The technology of Android smartphones is improving every year. With some technologies, however, smartphone manufacturers depend on the support of companies that advance technical innovations.

Advancements in charging technology for Kenyan mobile users

With numerous smartphones in the market, Qualcomm is one tech firm that wants to set new standards in terms of charging technology. When talking about charging technology, considerations have to be made into:

Fast charge-loading time

When it comes to batteries, manufacturers are focusing on options to ensure fast charging times and high charging currents in such a way that the life of the batteries is not affected too much by high currents.

One possible solution is the dual battery design, which OnePlus integrated into the OnePlus 8T for the first time.

The Xiaomi 11T Pro also currently offers a particularly fast charging speed.

Fast charging technologies are now a new standard.

China was for a long time known to produce mimicked and substandard phones at a period when smartphone access was a reserve for the privileged in society, and I benefited from the cheap phones at the time. Today, very good mobile phones come from the Asian country, such as Huawei and Oppo. I have used Huawei P20 Lite since 2019 before switching to Samsung Galaxy A22 for close to two months. Between the two, I would vouch for the former if I needed a slim, light, and fast network. The Samsung is good with the camera and display technology and that’s just it.

In these days, again, Chinese smartphones have the fast-charging technologies as a standard specification. Outputs of up to 120 watts are now almost the norm.

The technologies are often in-house developments, so that special power packs are required for full use of the technologies. So far, however, Quick Charge as the Qualcomm standard has not been able to meet these requirements.

Charge cell phones in minutes

Qualcomm plans to introduce Quick Charge with the fifth generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new development of the model previously known as the Snapdragon 898 should be able to charge smartphones with a power of up to 150 watts.

This should enable mobile phones to go from zero to 100 percent within ten minutes. What an amazing technological advancement!

Because the charging speed is quite high, the size of the battery hardly affects it.

Charge two batteries at the same time

Qualcomm uses dual charge technology by quickly charging two small batteries at the same time. This fast-charging technology significantly influences the utilization of the smartphone. A major benefit of developing Quick Charge is that Qualcomm’s technology is accessible to its partners. This allows users to automatically access Quick Charge 5 on a Snapdragon processor. Thanks to this technology, it seems a logical consequence that Android smartphones will be even faster to charge in the future.

The entry and imminent triumph of 5G technology

Other than improvements in charging technology, mobile phones that are in the Kenyan market now have 5G technology. This despite the low connectivity and access to the technology in Kenya. Amazingly, some regions within the country do not even have mobile network coverage.

What is 5G? Safaricom explains what 5G is as follows:

5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.

5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users.

According to Techweez, a leading technology blog in Kenya, Safaricom rolled out its 5G network coverage in Nairobi in early 2020.

Today, Safaricom reports that it provides 5G coverage in some regions of Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kisii, and Kakamega.

5G technology has now proven itself in the world of smartphones. What was only integrated into expensive top models at the beginning of 2020 or available at extra cost is now standard on cell phones such as the Realme 8 5G or Redmi Note 9T 5G.

Regulate screen refresh rates for Android mobiles

In addition, manufacturers are always focusing on regulating the screen refresh rate .

While 60 Hertz was the standard for years, Xiaomi even exceeds the previously popular 120 Hertz displays with a performance of 144 Hertz.

The smartphones use smart adaptive controls that adapt to individual needs, improve image display and automatically save power.

The advantage of improved cell phone cameras

Many mobile phone cameras compete for even better night vision capabilities, more megapixels or better telephoto magnifications. For example, the ZTE Axon 30 managed much better than its predecessor to place the front lens well hidden under the display.
The technology for folding and folding cell phones is a big step further. Led by Samsung Fold, numerous smartphones are now designed to be folded seamlessly.
