Safaricom Daima service: Keep your line active up to 2 years

Safaricom customers can now keep their numbers active for up to 2 years with a single airtime top up. On 26th October, Safaricom launched Daima service which will allow their customers to keep their lines for a period of 6 months to 2 years without the need to keep topping up every month.

This move will help customers that move abroad and cannot keep purchasing airtime for the period they are away. It will also help those that go for training in the army or police. The service will also come in handy for customers that want to change ownership of a line once they lose their loved ones and those that are away in school.

However, there are conditions customers must meet before they can use the new Daima service. They must have used their lines for more than 90 days and be individual Prepay customers. Kenya’s telecommunication industry allows telecommunication operators to reissue lines if they have not been in use for 90 days.

The Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa said:

“We are yet again innovating around our customers’ needs by introducing solutions such as Daima that are modelled around the lifestyles of our customers. The Daima service empowers customers such as those working abroad, those in learning institutions, those going away for extended periods, or those with multiple lines to keep their lines active and remain affordably connected for an extended period of between 6 and 24 months without the need to frequently top up.”

Safaricom Daima service packages and duration

To purchase these packages, a customer has three packages to choose from:

  • KSh. 200 for 6 months,
  • KSh. 500 for 1 year, and
  • KSh. 1,000 for 2 years.

It is assumed that these options will provide customers with 20 minutes calling time and 20 SMS across all networks every month.

Customers can access Daima by dialing *100*4# and selecting the Daima option.

It will also be accessed from the MySafaricom App soon.

What to know about the Safaricom Daima service

A customer can only have one service subscription at a time. There will be no refunds if one deactivates the service before the due date or does a wrong subscription? The customer is notified via SMS to renew or purchase a new subscription when the current one lapses. When the subscription ends, the line becomes inactive and can be disconnected for failure to top up. A customer can purchase Daima service for another number via USSD *100*4# >Daima, select Buy for Other option or via My Safaricom App or Safaricom website. Bonga points and Fuliza can be used to purchase the service. You cannot sambaza the Minutes and SMS.
