Rolls-Royce Sweptail

Some of the most expensive cars in the world are one-offs, some were produced in small series. The VW subsidiary Bugatti makes it into the current ranking three times, while Ferraris are not among the most expensive cars. Some manufacturer names should only be known to enthusiasts. We show the most expensive cars in the world and reveal how much they cost. An overview.

These are the 10 most expensive cars in the world in 2023

10th place: Lamborghini Veneno Roadster (approx. KSh505 million)

The Audi subsidiary Lamborghini produced just nine vehicles of the exotic collector’s item Lamborghini Veneno in the open version as a so-called roadster. There are only five of the coupés.

Even the coupe would make it into the list with a selling price of around Ksh2.9 billion. As a convertible, the Veneno cost even more at its launch in 2015 at a good price of Ksh505 million. For comparison: the Lamborghini Aventador is available in its basic version for “only” Ksh 40 million.

9th place: Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita (Ksh556 million price in Kenya)

The body of the Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg is made of carbon and diamonds. The CCXR Trevita special model is powered by a 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with more than 1,000 HP. So, it’s no wonder that the premium sports car has a selling price of 4.4 million euros. It was planned that there would be three units build. However, its production was more complex than it was initially thought. Eventually, Koenigsegg stopped the production of this car after just two cars. One of them was bought by the flamboyant world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather from the USA.

8th place: Pagani Huayra Imola (approx. 5 million euros)

The special Imola model of the already outrageously expensive Pagani Huayra (price from: approx. 1.3 million euros) was already sold out before production. The reason: the Italian sports car manufacturer produced only five units of the Huayra Imola model. Each of the customer was involved in the manufacturing process. With 827 HP, the Imola is the most powerful vehicle from Pagani.

7th place: Bugatti Divo (approx. 5 million euros)

Bugatti intends to produce a total of 40 of the special models based on the Bugatti Chiron. The Bugatti Divo is named after the French pilot and racing driver Albert Divo, who won the Grand Prix six times, among other things. Just like the basic Chiron model, the Divo has 1500 HP and has top speed of more than 400 km/hr. Customers had to pay around 5 million euros for this sports car, which is already sold out.

6th place: Mercedes-Maybach Exelero (approx. 8 million euros)

The Mercedes-Maybach Exelero is a one-off product ordered by the tire manufacturer Fulda. The company ordered the car to test extreme tires. The Mercedes-Maybach Exelero has 23-inch 315 rollers, is 5.8 meters long and weighs 2.7 tons. The car also reaches a top speed of 351 km/hr. After the tire manufacturer Fulda completed its tests with the car, rapper Birdman bought the Mercedes-Maybach Exelero for €8 million.

5th place: Bugatti Centodieci (approx. 9.5 million euros)

The Bugatti Centodieci is the latest model from the sports car manufacturer Bugatti and its shape is intended to be reminiscent of the Bugatti EB 110 that was built in the 1990s. Ten units were to be manufactured in Molsheim, France, and delivered in 2021. With a purchase price of around 9.5 million euros, the Centodieci is almost twice as expensive as the Divo, which is also a strictly limited series, and with 1600 HP it has another 100 HP more than the basic Bugatti Chiron version which retails from around 2.8 million euros.

4th place: Bugatti La Voiture Noire (approximately Ksh1.8 billion price in Kenya)

The reinvention of the discontinued Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic from the 1930s was manufactured as a one-off product and acquired by an unknown buyer. The Bugatti La Voiture Noire has a 16-cylinder W engine with 1,500 HP and can reach a top speed of 420 km/h.

To own the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, you will need a whooping Ksh1.8 billon.

The Rolls-Royce Sweptail is the third most expensive car in the world. Like the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, this luxury vehicle is unique, but was made exclusively for a customer. Based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the Sweptail was worked on for four years. Neither the unknown customer nor Rolls-Royce wanted to comment on the exact price. It is rumoured  to cost more than 10 million euros, but most internet sources assume a price of around 13 million euros.

2nd place: Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta (approx. 20 million euros)

The Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is the second most expensive car in the world. The price of a brand new super sports car, which is limited to three units, is around 20 million euros. However, only two of the three Barchettas produced are available for customers, one went to company founder Horacio Pagani himself. The HP in the name of the sports car stands for the initials of the founder, Horacio Pagani.

1st place: Rolls-Royce Boat Tail (approx. Ksh3.3 billion price in Kenya)

It wasn’t until 2021 that Rolls-Royce presented the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a convertible car limited to three units. The car is characterized primarily by a unique stern in the style of a yacht. Under the rear of the car is a picnic set, a table and two stools, and an extendable parasol.

Of course, this Rolls-Royce does not lack a champagne cooler and an umbrella. The third Boat Tail was recently presented at the Concorso d’Eleganza on Lake Como and is said to have been built for the son of a pearl manufacturer. With the car’s exclusivity comes a humongous price tag. The third Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is said to cost around Ksh3.3 billion ($27 million) and is therefore the most expensive new car in the world. For comparison: The second example of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is said to have been bought by the musicians Jay-Z and Beyoncé in 2021 for around Ksh2.9 billion ($23 million).
