Fuliza is a mobile loan service available to Safaricom MPesa users in Kenya. The service is provided through a partnership between Safaricom and NCBA bank.

The Fuliza loan service in Kenya lets Kenyans to overdraw some amount in excess of their available MPesa balance. Each customer is given a fuliza loan limit which dictates the amount they can take in excess at any given time.

What is the eligibility for Fuliza services in Kenya?

How can you fuliza without Mpesa? The only way you get access to fuliza services is by first being an MPesa customer. So, it is not possible to fuliza without Mpesa in Kenya.

  • To be an M-PESA registered user
  • Have an active Safaricom line for at least six months

Here is how to get loan from Safaricom Fuliza. First you will need to sign up.

  1. Dial *234# on your mobile phone.
  2. Select option 0, which is Fuliza M-Pesa.
  3. Next, select 1 (yes) To get started
  4. Enter 98 more and 1 to accept Fuliza M-Pesa’s terms and conditions.

After accepting the terms and conditions, you’re receive a message confirming your subscription to the services.

To check your loan limit, dial *234*5# on your phone.

How to use Fuliza in Kenya?

It is quite easy to use Fuliza loan service. Usually, when you are signed in, transact on M-PESA and when you have insufficient funds in your account, Safaricom will allow you to use your available loan limit to pay for a service. If you do not have a limit, you won’t receive the option to use the service.

Once you are prompted to pay with Fuliza, select OK and enter your pin to confirm.

Safaricom encourages Kenyans to use Safaricom Mpesa more to increase their loan limits.

Can I buy airtime directly with Fuliza?

When Fuliza was launched, it was not possible to use the services to buy airtime or even withdraw from an Mpesa agent. Currently, it is possible to do so.

To use Fuliza to buy airtime, just do a normal Mpesa transaction.

How to check the Fuliza loan balance

You can also check your Fuliza balance by dialling *234*6*1#.

How to repay fuliza?

Fuliza repayment is automatic. Customers that have a loan with the facility will automatically be deducted all the amount they receive in the Mpesa accounts until it is fully repaid. Each time the loan is repaid, the available fuliza limit increases to match the repaid amount, except when a customer has defaulted on repayment.

What are the daily Fuliza charges?

Being an overdraft, Fuliza is rather expensive. Below are the daily charges depending on the amount you borrow. Mpesa customers can borrow up to Kes 70,000 for 30 days.
